BIOL-2220 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Ultraviolet, Cytoskeleton, Cellular Respiration
Document Summary
Composition of plasma membrane: made up of two layers of phospholipids. Plugged in : can have carbohydrates associated with proteins and those are called glycoproteins, can have carbohydrates associated with lipids and those are called glycolipids, carb extensions on the cell are recognition sites. Cell structure: channel mediated, transmembrane proteins that transport substances through aqueous channels from one side of the membrane to the other. Intracellular fluid that surrounds the organelles: extracellular outside the cell and these can have different compositions, the cellular material between the plasma membrane and the nucleus. Cell structure: site of most cell activity, contains the cytosol, organelles, and inclusions, elements: Cell structure cell; it is a great lubricant so that it can slide across: cellular extensions, cilia- several short projections. Typically found on epithelial cells on the free surface of those cells. Involved in things like movement: flagella.
