Components of whole blood adult male - 5 to 6 l adult female - 4 to 5 l. Functions of blood: performs numerous functions that are important in the maintenance of homeostasis. Involve substance distribution & regulation of blood levels of particular substances as well as protection: accomplished by: Transporting oxygen, nutrients, enzymes & hormones to tissues.
