Ice breaker speech: speech early in the term designed to get students speaking in front of the class asap. Be precise in narrowing your topics to a 3 minute speech about yourself. You do not have to tell your whole life story but do not go into too much detail. Find ways to develop your speech creatively. Chronological order: main points follow time pattern. Topical order: divide the topic into main points. Main points: major points developed in the body. Transition: phrase indicating the end of one thought and flow into another. Speaking extemporaneously: a carefully prepared speech and rehearsed speech presented from a brief set of notes. Uses preparation but allows the speaker the freedom of a manuscript. Rehearse your speech out loud and in the mirror and time your speech. Assignment 1 due august 29, 2016: something from your past, something that represents you now, your future, your bag- has to be significant.
