GEN-3000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Start Codon, Release Factor, World Federation Of Trade Unions
Document Summary
Transcription takes place in the nucleus while translation takes place in cytoplasm. Ribosomes, the protein synthesis machines are make up of protein and rna. Have large and small sub unites in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. When subunites come together active sites are made-where trna will interact with ribosomes-will also have mrna binding site. Divided into stages: binding of amino acids to trnas. With trna we have an anticodon (complimentary to mrna)-all have basic secondary structure. Cell has 30-50 different trnas for 20 amino acids trnas are specific for a particular aa, but all trnas have the same attachment site (cca) Cell has 20 of theses, one for each aa. Can use one trna to recognize multiple codons because of the degeneracy of the genetic code and wobble. Components assemble-mrna, small and large subunites of the ribosomes, intuition factors, initiator trna and gtp.
