Some people have transnational identities in which they are marked by multiple identities and allegiances. People ascribe their own identities and can reject prescribed identities. Culture shock: feeling disoriented when one is suddenly immersed into an unfamiliar culture/way of life/set of attitudes. Multicultural society: coexistence of culturally defined groups within a nation state. Us is a multicultural society composed of many different groups that coexist.
