L e c t u r e 3. Elementary hunt seat class (fence class comes later) 4 criteria: broke & quiet, soft & smooth, functionally correct, quality & way of going. Horses are free from major and minor refusals, and give the appearance of being quiet and willing to the rider"s cues. Must hit the ground light and soft on all 4 feet when traveling. Should move with a large amount of impulsion from behind and travel with long, bold strides. Leads: left foot for canter in left direction & same for right direction. Be able to lengthen strides & cover ground. Shown @ walk, trot, & canter, both directions. Extremely slow or fast is penalized (cid:862)jiggy(cid:863) walk is penalized. Trot long, low ground covering definite 2 beat cadenced & balanced strides should be diagonal pairs that hit the ground @ same time. Want to see a hind-end drive, should be strong slow & graceful.
