-Compounds are named in four main categories:
-Ionic
-Type 1 and Type II
-polyatomic Ions in compunds
-Molecular compounds
-Acids
Binary Ionic Compound Nomenclature
1. Balance the subscripts in the compound based on known charges for the cation and
anion.
-The charges should add to match the overall charge of the compound
2. Name the cation first with its given elemental name
-If there are multiple oxidation states name the using roman numeral to
indicate the oxidation state (+charge)
3. Name the anion second with the ending ide
