PSY 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Jean Piaget, Frontal Lobe, Artificial Neural Network
Document Summary
Maximum number of neurons are present when you are first born. Neural networks begin to grow and neural connections are improved. Frontal lobe is developing until adolescence and beyond (affects decision making and behavior) Critical periods (biggest example is language earlier on in childhood, being exposed to language will help develop understanding and speaking a language) Babies generally follow the same sequence of motor development. Can"t really remember much of your childhood, most people remember their first memory around the age of three (brain is still forming) Cognition - all the mental activities associated with thinking, knowing, remembering, and communicating. Stages of cognitive development are very similar for all people. Babies lack object permanence until about 8 months ago (ex: peek-a-boo) - not understanding that an object still exists even when they can"t see it. Really enjoy to play pretend (play house, soldiers) Begin to develop theory of mind around age 4.
