Strain if the world doesn"t make sense given that we are creatures of meaning: national integration and primordialism, the ineffable bond of primordiality clashes with civil ideas in emerging states. Secular rationalist leaders could be seen as the enemy: the bonds of kinship, race, religion, region, custom, and language. Sometimes crisis turns people to a very rigid and traditional way of thinking: crisis of meaning, social anomie, economic marginalization.
