1. At high levels, produces mania (high point of manic depression)

1. Example: monkey mothers were fed mercury → children problem
solving assessed
a. No discernable effects in mother
b. Babies showed effects (may show critical period in utero)
ii. PCBs in telephone transformers=behavioral toxin
1. Exposure through water and eating the fish
2. Lake Michigan--mothers who ate no fish or lots of fish
a. Looks at data of 3 day old infant
b. In mothers who ate lots of fish babies were
hyporesponsive (unresponsive) to their surroundings
c. Look at PCB levels in placenta and in the cord
