Marx"s social science: historical materialism/ marx"s theory of development. Religion is an idealistic way of thinking due to one"s materialistic relationship with one another, now society reproduces itself. History is about materials that people have that constructs society: first religion was worshiping nature, religion changes due to material development of society. At mid-19th century, germany was economically backward relative to great britain and had tradition of speculative philosophy that marx criticizes in the german ideology: germans have their heads in their clouds. Great britain still very conscious of class differences. Industrial revolution: steam powered machines & child labor. Marx would say this is a predictor of the future. We need some type of social science. Unique from animals because humans exchange/barter things. Humans are environmentally determined by the environment that we create. The existing stage in the division of labor determines also the relations of individuals to one another with reference to the material, instruments, and product of labor.
