Higher resolution on smart phone screens causes more bandwidth to be used in image processing. 36 megabytes are used per image on a 12 megapixel camera: for hd video 712 megabytes are used per second, recent expansion in bandwidth usage due to: Cloud storage: compression decreases bandwidth usage. Compression: lossless compression does not have a drop in quality between the original image and the compressed image (lossy compression does have a drop in quality, example of lossless compression: morse code, image compression: Run length compression: rather than sending a value for each individual pixel, values for lines of a specific color are sent. Round each float value in an array to an integer value: jpeg and mpeg are formats for compressed images. Video can be represented as a series of jpeg images. Mpeg images take into account what values within an image stay the same between frames.
