Types of virtual reality: static location (viewer is unable to move around in the environment, movable location (viewer is able to move around in the environment, augmented reality (a computer generated image is superimposed on top of reality) Ideally, a gps would track the user"s location, this is not currently possible with modern technology, gpss are not accurate enough. Could have use in the medical field. Needs to be quicker for a more realistic experience: gaze directions can be tracked to display the correct image. Distorted images: can be used to map images onto irregular shapes, lenses of head mounted displays (like the oculus rift or the. Microsoft hololens) have lenses that have a pincushion distortion. This is compensated for using a barrel distortion on the image to be projected. This uses more time to process the image, increasing rendering time.
