Document Summary

In durkheim"s the rules of the sociological method, i concur with durkheim on his ideas about how social facts are the norms, values and conventions that ultimately determine an individual"s life. Many issues such as divorce or suicide may seem like they are dependent on individual choice, yet they are instead dependent on society (durkheim 1982). For instance, the birth/fertility rate still seems to be affected by a number of social factors. While decision to bear children may at first glance seem to be personal and private, the age in which women do have children seems to be heavily impacted by social facts. Many causes of the declining trend in birth rate is due to women"s education and empowerment and economic expansion. This is especially prevalent within the society of japan. 3% and an expanding economy, its declining birth rate may seem surprising (weller 2017).
