General speech purpose: to inform, to persuade, to mark a special occasion. Why am i speaking on this topic for this particular audience and occasion: when the general speech purpose is to inform. Informative speech- share your knowledge or point of view about a subject with others: define, describe, explain, or demonstrate this knowledge. Informative speech- increase the audience"s understanding and awareness of a topic. Want the audience to learn something: when the general speech purpose is to persuade. Persuasive speech- effect some degree of change in the audience"s attitudes, beliefs, or even basic values: when the general speech purpose is to mark a special occasion. Special occasions speeches of introduction, speeches of acceptance, speeches of presentation, roasts and toasts, eulogies, and after-dinner speeches. Purpose: to entertain, celebrate, commemorate, inspire, set a social agenda. Brainstorming- problem-solving technique that involves the spontaneous generation of ideas through word association, topic mapping, or even internet browsing of subject indexes: word association.
