PSY 005 Lecture Notes - Lecture 30: Internal Validity, List Of Muppets, Demand Characteristics
Document Summary
Multimethod: good researchers should try to use multiple research methods to test their theories. If you can identify that aggression is related to frustration in a laboratory, and in a survey study, and in another method, then it"s more likely to be true. It"s a stronger argument: you can say that the causal relationship isn"t just a product of one type of study. If you can eliminate one of the problems in one type of study by using another type of study and you get the same results, then you have a stronger theory. Design problems- something in the way you design your procedure that brings up some type of confound. Some sort of clue in procedure that tips off the subject to the hypothesis about how they"re supposed to behave. Their behavior isn"t a result of the manipulation, it"s more a result of whether they want to support the hypothesis or prevent the hypothesis.
