Document Summary

Part 1: list, in bullet point fashion, your top 5 take-aways (knowledge that you gained) from chapter 6. See the assignment instructions for examples of appropriate take-aways. Corn is often perceived as a food that is bad for our health. Corn is driven by government policy which may explain the amount grown. This policy allows us to produce corn below the cost of production. Our croplands are being used to produce corn and soybeans than any other crop because these products are mostly used to feed livestock and make processed foods. We are producing an increased amount of corn and soybean over any other crops because consumers eat so much meat, dairy, eggs, and processed foods. By removing subsidies from grains like corn and soybeans, the calorie consumption would decline by only 0. 35 pounds per person per year. There is no reason to believe that by removing subsidies, obesity would decline.
