Cooperative approach between basic and applied research. Known as the scientific method: the gold standard for verifying information and hypotheses. Five steps: identify the problem, define the dependent variable, develop design, procedures, and learning opportunities, observe, record, and analyze, make inferences. After the scientific method has been conducted, the scientist makes inferences from the result. Moa: the equipment/resources/method you use determines the research agenda instead of the questions that you have: not recommended. Poa: methods are determined by problem to be solved: puling resources from a variety of areas to solve a problem. States that if one person out of all the researchers in a field disproves or disagrees with the consensus, the consensus must be scrapped. Basic and applied research as independent but cooperative: level 1 basic research: theory based learning to understand movement with no regard to practical application. Uncontrolled environment: level 2 applied research: theory based learning that considers the skills necessary for practical application.
