Document Summary

There are a number of practice and training methods that an individual can use to promote better transfer of learning. Transfer-appropriate processing: the cognitive skills present during practice will transfer over to competition. Positive: training task enhances performance of transfer task (i. e. competition). Negative: opposite of positive; decreases competition performance levels. Zero transfer: training task has no effect on competition performance: this is bad because it wastes time. Lateral transfer: going from throwing to kicking; a change of tasks: difficulty of the task: better transfer from difficult to easy than vice versa. Best if training at the same level as transfer task: speed-accuracy. Emphasize both speed and accuracy in training for best transfer. Cognitive learning explanation: perception, decision making, and response organization are developed for both sides even if only one side is practicing. Writing left handed even though i am right handed; the same cognitive processes are developed, just not the motor component.
