Color blind racism: a new racial ideology which purports to explain racial inequality on the basis on non-racial dynamics. It has become dominant ideology and it has also permeated the legal system, particularly in the most important supreme court decisions in the last 10 years. It is supported by a material basis which is the transformation of racism in the united states. Racism today is subtle, hidden, institutionalized than jim crow racism. Race has hierarchy, power to one, and taking power from others. Indigenous people lost their land, violent or through the law. Racial hierarchies: 19th century, california and southwest, spain had casa system, incorporated, the people of color (had a place) native americans moved. Teacher jane elliot, riceville ia, conducts a racialization experiment in her class. Brown eyed children were pointed out as having behavior and performance problems.
