The cop v. social scientist perspective: klein book. Is there an ideological influence? (yes) (it is very difficult to be objective) Didn"t look at the gang as deviant or evil . Agency v. structure: goal to show success but there needs to be failure to work. Agency and structure analysis of behavior: structure forces on the top. Challenges the idea of the american dream: there are those who will be stuck in lower class. Agency: is the capacity for individuals on the micro level, able to exercise their free will and act independently without any influence by social forces and macro level dynamics.
