Homer uses god"s looking down telling hermes to go steal hector back: not athena, poseidon, hera unhappy. Finally apollo stands up and address hera and them. Says they are cold hearted because hector has sacrificed things for them and now his family can"t see him because those gods are on. Achilles" side: hera is angry with apollo and says hector is mortal unlike achilles who sprang from a goddess, zeus talks to hera and says don"t fly into a rage but the immortals love hector dearly, so. Zeus dispatches iris (messenger goddess) to go to thetis- mother of achilles. Orders iris to tell thetis he is angered that hector isn"t given back and perhaps in fear of zeus he will listen.
