White supremacy historically based, institutional system of exploitation and oppression that maintains white power, wealth, and privilege. Unintentional rather than malicious intent: whites can acknowledge that racism exists, but ignore white privilege benefits. Benefits become something that people feel entitled to and want to protect, and people who pass as white want to obtain. Over time, legitimated and protected in policy, law, and practice: higher property values, better schools, ability to exclude, wealth accumulates over generations.
