In africa, slaves before the european form of slavery were more like indentured servants and could earn/buy freedom back. Some customaries of african slavery was that the slave of the family, after serving several years, became an equal part of the family. Unlike in european slavery, slavery in africa was temporary and not lifetime cruel labor. Conditions of african slavery were more humane (no violence of whips and physical abuse, also no cruelty of any kind in african slavery) as to say and was not an inherited status (ex.
