Ideology: a belief system, a lens you look through to view social reality, central to understanding any political/economical system, fusion of religious + political ideology, liberalism is an ideology that stresses individual rights. Freedom to do what you want, freedom for all people. The dominant ideology/belief system in u. s. political culture: two types of colonies established in the new world: religious freedom and economic opportunity. Rights: the right to life, liberty, and property. Political liberalism (rights): democracy is best way to organize pol. liberalism. Democracy is how we participate in politics, choose our leaders, etc. True democracy: the losing party steps down and makes way for the winning party. Democracy + capitalism doesn"t add up (equality + inequality) economy wins. Economic liberalism (rights): capitalism is how we arrange the economy.
