Meteorology: the scientific study of the atmosphere and the atmospheric phenomena as well as the atmosphere"s interaction with the earth"s surface and oceans. Weather: the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. Climate: average weather -the sum of all statistical weather information that helps describe a place or region. Climate is what you expect, but weather is what you get . Atmosphere layers: troposphere: temperature generally decreases with increasing height. We live at the bottom of the troposphere: stratosphere: temperature is nearly constant for about the first 20 km. After this portion, the temperature increases with the height due to absorption of solar radiation by ozone: mesosphere: the temperature decreases with height. The coldest temperatures in the atmosphere are located at the top of the mesosphere (approximately. 130 degrees f: thermosphere: the temperature increases with height. This section contains only a very small fraction of the overall mass of the atmosphere.
