New dances are increasing but had to keep them tame. Lindy hop not initially acknowledged by management. 1928: george shorty snowden and mattie purnell invented the lindy hop. Take credit away from the african american community. More outgoing and wanting to teach people. First african american dance form to be developed in the south. Changed how people viewed black bodies and black culture. Influx of gay men in the social dance scene.
