Document Summary
Population ecology: group of individuals of same species in an area. Estimates the size of more mobile or inconspicuous species. Density- the number of individuals per given area. Number of individuals in each age group. No obvious factors bring animals together or apart. Survivorship curves (shows how many members of a cohort remain alive over time. Juvenile survivorship is high, fatality later in life span. Death rate does not vary with each, constant rate. Higher mortality rate and shorter life span. Growth rate for population= birth rate - death rate. R=0 is balance of birth and death rate. Can occur as long as r is constant and greater than zero. The number of individuals increases at an ever accelerating rate. Plot population size against time results in a j shaped curve. Describes population birth and death rates changes over time as a country becomes more industrialized and economically developed. Exponential growth cannot be sustained for long.
