There is always a basis in rebelliousness in rock, despite this change over time. At the time of its inception rock (and roll) seemed revolutionary but it was, in fact, a step in a long evolutionary process. These two styles created the foundation for american music. European urban and folk (a culturally stratified tradition) Folk music (story telling/oral tradition not very reliable in generational transition because it changes over time) Urban (belonged to the elite for a long time) The fact that the music survived their enslavement over centuries is a small miracle. Most profound game changer in music history: when we first became able to record music. First recorded on wax records (first started recording folk and blues music) Musical score: a set of directions or a kind of recipe for music. The slave trade was the primary reason for this integration.
