Not a poliical movement at irst but that soon changed. Two branches: tradiionalist (joan baez) acivist (woody guthrie, bob dylan) Gave rise to the protest movement (civil rights, vietnam, marches, rallies, sit/ins, etc. ) No other music at the ime had the social relevance of the acivist folk music.
