Basic logic - the world is socially constructed. Identity: apply something like social identity theory to countries, think of countries have identities. We tend to see our country positively (nationalism) so we will then identify with countries that look like us on some basis (ideology, ethnicity). We then make in-groups and out-groups (countries not like ours). Countries have identities (much like individuals in sit) But countries identities can change, often in a positive direction: Identities can change in a positive and negative direction (ex. 1979 good relations with iran and then suddenly things change, a new man comes into power and ideology changes - bad) Definition of idea: proposition about way world should be or way world is. Definition of norm: a norm is an expected pattern of behavior. Logic of consequences suggests dr. bearce would drink a lot of beer vs. logic of appropriateness: not being a tool in front of all his friends/coworkers at the block party.
