Notes lecture 13: self disclosure cont, strangers on a train- helps study how people self-disclose people disclose information with strangers that they do not disclose with people close to them in their lives. They disclose this information because it can"t come back to hunt them: stages in the development of self-disclosure, the stranger stage/ orientation stage- an exchange of information that you have with someone you have never met before. Things such as your name, where you"re from, major-- superficial information, not strong psychological information: exploratory exchange- you let people know more personal information about you. Such as: preferences, things you do in your spare time, likes dislikes, no strong emotional component: affective exchange- sharing information that is more emotional. Most relationships never make it past stage 3. still hide some emotional information: stable exchange: true confidant- disclose virtually anything. There are no boundaries with this type of relationship you tell the person anything.
