Document Summary

Chapter 3 & 4 - 2/7 & 2/9. Important or understanding what hull"s theory is really about. Determine whether a response will occur for a stimulus. Reaction potential (potential of stimulus to elicit response) Reaction potential: the potential that a stimulus has for producing a response. Decreased drive after too many hours of deprivation (or satiation) Response latency (there may be time lapsed before the response) Reaction threshold (how intense the stimulus must be to elicit a response. Example: mother"s adrenaline after seeing a car roll over her child and being able to lift the car off them. A conditioned response made by an organism before the actual goal reaction. Although overt behaviors might be associated with antedating goal reactions, they are conditioned internal responses. Example: animal in a maze knows there is food at either end, but sit in the middle pacing back and forth not knowing which way to go.
