Coding systems are hierarchical arrangements of related categories. Such that the topmost category in the system is more general than are all the categories below it. Categorizing and placing concepts (categories) into coding systems is basic to generalizing - or what is termed transfer. How humans use personal narratives to make sense of their lives. Bruner advocates discover-oriented, constructivist teaching methods - encouraging learners to be active in how they learn and what they focus on. Spiral curriculum is often the best for learner-centered education. One that redevelops the same topics at succeeding ages and at different levels of difficulty. The conceptual change movement - emphasis is on the learner"s personal involvement in the process of learning. There is a mental reorganization of concepts with the addition of new material. Piaget"s research and theories influenced psychology and education. Developmental: processes by which children achieve a progressively more advanced understanding of their environment and of themselves.
