Chapter 4 summary: as soon as society can characterize a group of people as characterless. Group 5: page 197 symbolic production of race, race is a social construct, no biological basis, societies create it through symbolic practices to produce, symbols carry different meanings different groups. Group 6: term collateral damage use illegal aliens. Iraq war: who do we grieve, they didn"t do a body count of the collateral damage, only counted soldiers.
