ANAT 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Muscular System, Intramembranous Ossification, Skeleton
Document Summary
126 bones concerned w/ movement primary function: movement (axial function is protection) Make up the upper and lower limbs (scapula, humerus, capitolum and radius, trochlea and ulna, carpals), and girdles. Consist of the clavicle and scapula and held by large muscles. Clavicle: articulates w/ the manubrium of the sternum and superior to 1st rib. 30 bones humerus (arm), ulna and radius (forearm), 8 carpals (wrist), 5 metacarpals (palm) and 14 phalanges (digits) Ulna: a bone of the forearm; medial p. u (pinky on ulna side, olecranon forms the prominence of the elbow, styloid process attaches the ulna to the wrist. Radius: located on the lateral thumb aspect of the forearm, the proximal head articulates w/ the capitulum of the humerus and radical notch of the ulna to make the elbow joint. Carpals: wrist bones consisting of 8 small bones connected by ligaments, arranged in 2 transverse rows of 4 bones each. Proximal row: scaphoid (lateral), lunate, triquetrum, pisiform (medial)
