Document Summary

Macroevoluion: process that happens above the species level - need fossils, not alive organisms. Fossils: any remains of ancient life o o o. Trace fossils: not actual part of organism, but marks or structures made by organisms during life. Fossils almost always preserved by sedimentary rocks (smaller paricles bound together to a degree) Fossil record bias: is incomplete, especially compared to today (layered of informaion lost about what we could have known about o o o o o o. Anatomy: things that don"t get mineralizes can be more easily lost. Body size: really small organisms can be lost/crushed or be hard to ind vs. really large organisms tend to not be completely preserved. Number & abundance: vertebrates are not very abundant vs. invertebrates are much more abundant and makes it a litle easier to ind them. Environment/habitat: maters where organism was living - much beter chance of preservaion in marine environment (relaive to terrestrial environment)
