Document Summary

I think that people should be able to do prenatal testing for down syndrome and other major life-altering syndromes or diseases. I think it gives the parents options of things to do, including abortion (if it is not too late in the pregnancy and they are pro-choice) or time to prepare for what is to come. If the parents have to do extra financial planning or make other tough decisions, they should have the opportunity to find out before the child is born. While terminating the fetus may be a difficult decision to make, it is up to the family to make it. If the family is unable financially or otherwise unable to take care of a child with special needs, it is a viable option. Although this option is not available or appealing to many, it is good to keep in mind. The procedure only requires a tube of blood from the mother with no risk to the pregnancy.
