PHIL 385 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: United Nations Charter, Humanitarian Intervention, Liberal Democracy
Document Summary
Humanitarian intervention is one of the most disputed subjects within the space of international relations. Seeing that it"s difficult to prove that sovereignty can be tampered with to stop action taken within a nation"s borders. But, justification exists and there are a lot reasons for justification. There are 2 types of humanitarian intervention: authorized" intervention (sanctioned by the. United nations) and unauthorized" intervention, (not sanctioned by the united nations; also called unilateral humanitarian intervention). Whether or not there"s such authority, the supposed intention for humanitarian intervention is preventing/ending wide spread and grave encroachment of basic human rights of people other than its own citizens. Even with the best intention, there are those with ample power who still find this idea bane. The united states insists that intervention into the affairs of other countries is inappropriate regardless of the desire to export the united states" political system.
