SOC 204 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Adaptive Behavior, Terry Sejnowski, 3 Lbs
Document Summary
Because we are part of evolution, we should integrate other disciplines. Any trait, characteristic, behavior is part of biology. Behavior genetics: contributions of heredity and environment to behavior and personality characteristics (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) (cid:1) Sum of genes we get from our parent. Observable and measurable trait iq, height, etc. Segments of dna that code for patterns; make proteins; facilitate how we feel or behave; do not cause it. How do genes influence a trait: h2 can range from 0. 0 to 1. 0, the closer to 1. 0, the more variance of a trait in a population (not an individual) Shared environment: environment experienced by children reared in the same family; assumed to make similar. Non-shared environment: unique environmental experiences that make children from same family different, familial: gender, birth order, illness, extrafamilial: different peer groups; different cultures.
