MUSIC 249 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Everytime
Document Summary
Inaudibility -- "underscoring": music pitched just below the level of the dialogue. Everytime the voice came in, the sound apparatus would lower the decible level from the music. Poetry is trying to capture a moment in a very small space. King kong: the music had to break down your psychological barrior. Overture: clearly tonal, not a dissonance going on man -> man woman -> woman. Ancrage: you see the shark, and you hear its musical presence (adding meaning) The clip track technique -- punch a hole in the film so that there were a metronomical sense to the film itself (supporting the music)
