Document Summary
Rel 155: the new testament: 15 november 2016. 21: the epistle to the hebrews: non-pauline epistles. Paul is such a giant in the nt that it is easy to overlook the other epistles that come after his in the canon of the nt. Traditionally these have received far less attention than paul"s epistles. It is arguable that they deserve much more attention than they are getting. They are often called (cid:515)catholic epistles(cid:516) or (cid:515)general epistles(cid:516) because their audience is general and catholic rather than a specific pauline community. Hebrews is sometimes included in the group of (cid:515)catholic epistles(cid:516) and sometimes not. The epistle is anonymous, i. e. the texts do not specify an author. Bibles, it is called (cid:515)paul"s epistle to the hebrews,(cid:516) and in some ancient texts it is grouped with the pauline epistles. Its supposed pauline authorship is one of the reasons it made it into the canon.
