PSYCH-190 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Negative Number, Endocrine System, Psych
Document Summary
Correlational research: research whose goal is to describe the strength of the relationship between two or more events or characteristics. Puberty: a brain-neuroendocrine process occurring primarily in early adolescence that provides stimulation for the rapid physical changes that take place during this period of development. Puberty is often thought of as the most important marker for the beginning of adolescence; but for virtually everyone, puberty ends long before adolescence is exited. We do not know precisely what initiates puberty. A number of complex factors appear to be involved, including changes in the endocrine system, weight, and body fat: we do not know if these complex factors are a cause or a consequence of puberty. There is increased interest in the role that birth weight, rapid weight gain in infancy, obesity, and sociocultural factors might play in pubertal onset and characteristics.
