Alcohol is socially constructed as acceptable if you"re of age. They are political and economic phenomena, grounded in our history, folklore, and pop culture. They are integral parts of our collective psyche. Pot is a great example of social construction of a drug. After prohibition, instead of banning alcohol, they just regulated it a lot more. First marijuana laws passed in el paso (1914) followed by the state of tx in 1919. By 1933, 32 states had banned it. In 2016 a total of 25 states have legalized marijuana use. What effects does taking a drug have on the user? . Are reliably measurable, resulting from ingestion of a drug, observable and independent of wha the user believes they are experiencing: elevated heart rate with marijuana, discoordinating effects of alcohol.
