Document Summary

Important structures: soma (cell body), dendrites (branches off cell body), axons (longer branches), necleus, dendritic spines (pointy things on the dendrites in picture) Neuron = basic unit of communication in nervous system. Information ows from dendrites through soma, to axons and beyond. Not all neurons look the same: unipolar, bipolar, multipolar. Sensory neurons (perception), motor neurons (behavior), interneurons (neuron- to-neuron communicaiton. Not all neurons are the same size. Interneurons tend to be very small/short while motor neurons and sensory neurons are larger/longer. Neurons: basic unit of communication in nervous system. Between 10 and 50 times more glial cells than neurons. Dark horse cells; responsible for myelination, among other things. A neuron is like a leaky hose . Myelin function like insulation (makes neurons less leaky ) Myelin produced by glia, but different glia in different parts of the neurosystem. Where one neuron interacts with another - synapse. Synapse = the meeting of two neurons.
