What we associate with myth: something that is fake, trivial, mysterious, old/ancient. Paden wants us to equate religious texts with myths. Representational: they are ways to express/ represent religious ideas/ beliefs. Encoded in religious texts, these are either explicit or metaphorical. The stories are ways to show how to behave and how to govern one"s self. Applicable: you can use these stories in everyday life. Enacted: these are being used in a physical or non-physical way. Explains: tells how/ where/ what/ how/ when something happened. Constructs: gives structures to societal norms, also categorizes groups. Engage: religious texts make those who encounter those texts participants.
