Document Summary
No single founder/ central group making decisions. Israel refers to those who answer the call of god. Originally nomadic people who have been oppressed throughout history. Begins with the creation of the world by a supreme deity (god) Temple of jerusalem was captured and destroyed by the romans in 70 ce. Scriptures begin with an account of the creation of heaven and earth by god in 6 days. God created man and woman, making them masters of earth. Eve: mother of all living promised wisdom by a serpent to tempt her to taste the fruit of the tree of good and evil, against god"s command. Adam ate fruit too ended their innocence. God cursed the serpent and the land/ banished adam and eve. God is portrayed as a transcendent creator. Woman is portrayed not as equal to man, but to keep him company. Special idea in jewish theology special covenant relationship between the jewish people and god.
