Mood: how the author’s tone makes the reader feel
Tone: the language and way of telling the story that evokes a mood
Language- way of writing/telling a story
Hyperbole- exaggeration
Litotes- understatement
paradox: general contradiction-
oxymoron: kind of paradox, two words that are paradoxical-
Foreshadowing- predicting later circumstances earlier in the text via symbols, imagery,
or figurative language
Personification- giving human-like traits to inanimate objects
Allegory- an extended metaphor that often constitutes the story
