Historical accounts of behavioral syndromes that parallel schizophrenia appear in records as early as the 15th century. A brain disease that results in disturbances in human functioning: Dsm-5 criteria for schizophrenia either 1, 2, or 3: Two or more of the following symptoms for at least 1 month; one symptom should be: delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, disorganized (catatonic) behavior, negative symptoms (diminished motivation or emotional expression) Functioning in work, relationships, or self-care has declined since onset. Signs of disorder for at least 6 months. Grandiose delusions = the belief that the person is very important in some way. Outside control = the idea that the persons thoughts are being controlled from the outside somehow. Ideas of reference = they believe that normal ordinary things have special significance for them. Sensory experiences in the absence of sensory stimulation. Auditory = voice not recognized as their own in their head. Little or no expression in face or voice.
