Hypovolemia-- decrease in volume in the extracellular compartment. Effects of hypovolemia: decrease in rate of blood flow through the kidney (cid:314) kidney releases a hormone called renin. Cutting off artery using thread would cause same effect in the presence of renin. Angiotensinogen is converted into angiotensin 1(cid:314) angiotensin 2 (renin catalyzes this reaction) Increase in release adh from pituitary gland (cid:314) greater water retention by the kidney. Increases blood pressure by acting on smooth muscles around blood vessels.
